What is a custom color by number?

A custom color-by-number is a coloring page made from one specific photograph rather than from stock artwork. The image is reduced to a small palette, divided into cells, and each cell is numbered against a color key, so coloring it in gradually rebuilds the original picture. Because the source is personal — a pet, a wedding, a house, a face — the finished page works as a gift in a way a generic coloring page does not. The conversion is the same one behind every page in our gallery; the only question is whether you run it yourself or we do it for you.

What you get from one photo

How your custom page gets made

  1. Step 1

    Pick the photo

Choose a shot where the subject fills a good part of the frame and the light is reasonably even. That single choice decides most of how the page turns out.

  2. Step 2

    Send it or convert it

Email it to us for a free sample page, or drop it into the tool on this page and adjust the pattern, cell size and palette yourself.

  3. Step 3

    Print and color

You get the numbered page, the color key and the colored reference, sized for a standard letter page at print resolution.

What people ask us to convert

Pet portraits

The most requested subject by some distance. A close-up of the face, in focus, converts into a page that is recognisably that animal.

Personalized gifts

A wedding photo, a first house or a family shot turned into something the recipient finishes themselves — birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas.

Etsy and gift sellers

Offer custom pages from customer photos as a product. If the orders outgrow doing them one at a time, we can take the batch.

Memorial and keepsake pages

A photograph of someone or something no longer around, made into a page worth spending hours on.

Questions about custom pages

Can you make a color-by-number from my own photo?

Yes. Send the photo and we convert it into a printable color-by-number page with a matching color key. You can also do it yourself with the free tool on this page — the same conversion, with the settings in your hands.

What kind of photo works best?

A clear subject, decent light and reasonable contrast. Close-up pet and portrait photos convert well; a small subject in a busy background is the usual reason a page comes out muddy. If you are unsure, send it and we will tell you before you pay anything.

Can you do a pet portrait?

Pets are the most common request. Dogs, cats, horses and birds all convert well when the animal fills a good part of the frame and the face is in focus.

How do I get a sample first?

Send one image and we will convert a free sample page so you can judge the cell size, palette and numbering before agreeing to anything. There is no obligation attached to it.

What do I receive?

A print-ready page at 8.5 × 11 in and 300 DPI with its color key, plus the colored reference so you can see the finished result. Print it at home or send it to a print service.

Can I sell pages made from my photos?

Yes, provided you hold the rights to the source images. Pages you generate are yours to publish and sell on Etsy, Amazon KDP or print-on-demand stores. See the license page for the full terms.
